The Cortes Forestry General Partnership is planning a harvest for 2019 in the Carrington Operating Area. The project is comprised of a 5,000 m3 harvest in block CAR 1 that will be accessed via 0.5 km of new logging road.
The project is the same as was proposed in the summer of 2017 and included in the five year plan presented in February 2018. The five year plan is available here:5 Year Plan Feb 6 2018
The updated timeline is to build the new section of road this spring and begin the harvest in the fall once the fire and tourism seasons are over. Building the road in advance is intended to reduce impacts on runoff by giving the new road bed time to set up prior to log hauling.
Construction of the new road is expected to take approximately three weeks and the aim is to have the majority of the road work completed by late May. All of the saw logs from the new road right-of-way are expected to go by truck to supply local mills, and the rest of the logs will go into firewood for the community.
